HD Maximus is more than a shredding vehicle. It is a complete mobile data destruction facility, engineered for secure on-site projects where performance, chain of custody and visibility are all critical.
The platform includes a 26-tonne mobile unit, industrial HD Maximus shredder, onboard power generation, customer witness suite, workspace and connectivity, facilities, CCTV coverage and chain-of-custody controls.
Where many competitors rely on hydraulic shredding systems — which can suffer fluid leaks and lose efficiency under sustained load — HD Maximus runs on twin 22kVA electric motors, purpose-selected for consistent performance at high, continuous throughput. It’s a deliberate engineering choice: electric drive systems hold their efficiency at a constant load in a way hydraulics struggle to match, which matters when the goal is destroying hard drives at speed without compromising on particle size.

Yes. HD Maximus was officially commissioned in Q4 2025, the result of eight years of in-house R&D — starting with our smaller shredding platforms and our purpose-built 2mm SS Vortex SSD shredder — and is available for on-site projects now. Secure ITAD is also completing formal throughput benchmarking to validate real-world performance metrics across different load conditions.
Does HD Maximus shred SSDs as well as HDDs?
Yes, HD Maximus can process SSDs, but the key distinction is matching the destruction method to the security requirement.
HD Maximus is engineered primarily for high-speed HDD destruction, but it is fully capable of shredding SSDs and mixed media as part of a wider decommissioning workflow.
For clients needing ultra-fine SSD destruction, we pair HD Maximus with our in-house designed 2mm SSD shredder, which produces one of the most secure particle sizes available on a mobile platform.

How do you track serial numbers before shredding?
We use an AI-powered scanning system built directly into the shredding workflow.
Every drive travels along a conveyor belt where high-resolution imaging and machine learning models automatically identify:
- make
- model
- serial number
- form factor
and sometimes manufacturer-specific attributes (depending on condition and label clarity)
This removes the need for manual entry, eliminates transcription errors and ensures that every single device is verified before it enters the shredder.
The AI capture is continuous and timestamped, creating a fully traceable chain of custody from the moment the asset is collected to the moment it is destroyed.
How small are the particles created by HD Maximus?
HD Maximus reduces hard drives to approximately 5mm particles, which aligns with stringent HDD destruction guidelines and the expectations of most enterprise-level security policies.
For SSDs or organisations requiring a smaller particle size, the 2mm SSD shredder is deployed alongside HD Maximus to provide an even higher security tier.
How does the on-site setup work?
Our mobile unit arrives configured for rapid deployment. Within a short staging period, the shredder, cameras and AI capture system are operational. The entire workflow — from scanning to shredding — is contained within the unit, ensuring your team experiences minimal disruption.

Why did Secure ITAD build its own shredder rather than use an off-the-shelf solution?
We’ve been designing our own shredders for close to a decade, starting with smaller, more agile units that let us run standard vehicles rather than large trucks. That work led to SS Vortex, our in-house 2mm SSD shredder. HD Maximus is the next step: purpose-built to handle the growing volume and density of modern hard drives, which off-the-shelf shredders aren’t designed for, while keeping the same on-site agility and security standards our clients expect.
